Auditions Information

Auditions for 2014-15 Academy will take place on the following days:

Thursday 10 April – Cambridge (Easter holidays)
Friday 11 April – Thetford or Norwich (Easter holidays)
Saturday 26 April – Ipswich
Sunday 27 April – Cambridge
Saturday 10 May – Cambridge

Please note that audition slots on 10th and 11th April will in the first instance; be offered to young people who will be sitting GCSE, AS or A-levels this summer.

After students sitting exams have been prioritised, auditions will be filled on a first come first served basis.

If you would like to be considered for an audition on the 10th or 11th April, the deadline for your application is Friday 14 March 2014. We will continue to accept applications for the later audition slots until Monday 7 April 2014, which is the final deadline.

After the appropriate deadline, you will be informed of your audition date and sent a piece of chamber music to prepare.

The auditions are in the same kind of format as the Orchestra’s real auditions. Audition days are designed so that you have time to get to know us, and us you. Sessions will last for approximately 3 hours and in that time you will have the opportunity to meet, hear and play alongside Britten Sinfonia members who will be the Academy tutors. The session will include:

• Introduction from Britten Sinfonia musicians
• Group exercises
• Work as a small chamber group (alongside other young musicians and Britten Sinfonia musicians)
• Solo performance performed to the panel (c. 10 minutes)
• Short interview with the panel

We will supply a professional accompanist but if you are more comfortable with your own accompanist, you’re more than welcome to bring them with you.
