Britten Sinfonia are joined by the BBC Singers and former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Natalie Clein in a programme that opens with the music Tippett who first worked with the BBC Singers in 1944.

Sir John Tavener's Popule meus meditates upon the rejection of God by modern man, with the solo cello steadfast against the temptations of the secular world as hurled out by the timpani.

In her 80th-birthday year, Sofia Gubaidulina is represented by the atmospheric The Canticle of the Sun, a setting of St Francis of Assisi in which the silences can seem as important as the notes.
