Discover the inner workings of a composition in progress. Wherever your passion for music lies, this day-long event gives an intriguing insight into the world of contemporary composition and an opportunity to hear the composers of tomorrow as they develop.
Six outstanding composers from the University of Cambridge have been short-listed to present new works to the 2012 Composers’ Workshop.
Working with the six short-listed composers will be a creative team comprising renowned composer Oliver Knussen, conductor Jonathan Berman and Principal members of Britten Sinfonia. Each composer will be given dedicated time for feedback on all elements of their compositions; from the intricacies of writing for particular instruments, structures and creating different sound worlds, to matters of orchestration and presentation.
Following on from the workshop, one of the six composers will win a Britten Sinfonia commission. The new composition will be performed at Wigmore Hall and across the East of England as part of Britten Sinfonia’s award winning At Lunch concert series 2012/13 as well as being recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
From 10am audience members will have an informal opportunity to meet and chat over coffee with the young composers and creative team prior to the workshop which begins at 10.30am
