This programme revels in the rich sonorous timbres of strings and piano with internationally acclaimed pianist Paul Lewis performing with Britten Sinfonia’s award winning chamber string players. Two exceptional late-Romantic chamber works, R Strauss’ Prelude to Capriccio and Brahms’ rousing String Sextet are accompanied with works by Bach and Mozart. Mozart’s celebrated Piano Concerto in A, with its famous ethereal slow movement, is followed by Ricercare, in which the interweaving string melodies of this six part fugue exemplify Bach’s mastery of harmony and form.
