LATEST NEWS: Because most workshops are now fully booked, we have closed online booking for the Family Music Day. If you would like to book for the concert only, there are plenty of tickets left for that - please follow the booking link.
Come and join us for our special Halloween Family Music Day.
Bring your Little Spooks to Come and Cackle in the singing workshops; discover Chilling Chamber music; try Things that go bump in the percussion sessions; or visit Dr Frankenstein's workshop to build your own instrument. For younger children, there are special workshops for the under 5s, whilst older children can try out the (ghostly) Gamelan, or bring their own instruments to the Performers' Workshops. Costumes optional!
The day is aimed at children aged 11 and under; older children are also welcome to attend.
What will happen on the day?
Your ticket buys you entry to a whole day of activities. Once you have booked, you will be sent an email link to a form where you can book for particular workshops, which are included in the ticket price and repeated throughout the day. Spaces will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis so book now to avoid disappointment. In between workshops, you can take part in our quizzes and competitions, get your face painted, or just take time to get your breath back before you plunge into the next activity!
Performers' workshops (Strings / Wind & Brass) are for children who already play a musical instrument. Bring it along and learn a new piece with musicians from Britten Sinfonia. All abilities catered for.
Discover workshops (Strings / Wind & Brass) let you find out about a section of the orchestra, and hear them perform as a chamber group. No experience needed.
Percussion workshops are a great opportunity to make some noise and learn to play a range of percussion instruments. No experience needed.
Instrument-building workshops are where you can get creative design your very own musical instrument from everyday objects.
Gamelan workshops (for children aged 8+ only). A rare opportunity to play on these amazing Indonesian instruments. Not to be missed!
Singing workshops: Warm up your pipes and learn some new songs! There will be workshops aimed at younger and older children, as well as some for the whole family.
Parents & Toddlers workshops: in response to popular demand last year, we are introducing special workshops for children aged 5 and under and their parents, with songs, rhymes and percussion for little hands.
Come & Try: a drop in afternoon session where you can try out some of the instruments that you'll have seen earlier in the day.
There will also be a lunchtime concert, with lots of opportunities for everyone to perform.
