Fen Soundscapes

Great Fen project, photographer Karl Heidl
In association with Britten Sinfonia’s Great Fen Concerts, pupils from Ramsey Spinning Infants School and young people in Yaxley have been working with Britten Sinfonia and composers Jane Wells and Mike Challis. They are pleased to present the launch of their exciting interactive exhibition based on the sounds of the Great Fen, including a performance by musicians from Britten Sinfonia.
We have been running this project alongside the Great Fen Project and as a compliment to the Great Fen Concerts. As part of this project, young people in Yaxley have been working with composer Mike Challis and musicians from Britten Sinfonia to record and edit sounds associated with the Great Fen. They have now put together a Soundscape (an audio recording of sounds that create the sensation of experiencing a particular environment), which includes sounds they have recorded and edited, including natural sounds, music performed by professional musicians and music composed and performed by younger children at Ramsey Spinning Infants School who have been working with the composer Jane Wells.
We are launching this project on Tuesday 21 July 2009 between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. The evening features an exclusive preview of the soundscape, light refreshments and a short performance by children from Ramsey Spinning Infants School and musicians from Britten Sinfonia at 6pm.
