In a double-bill of Richard Strauss and Mozart, the strings of Britten Sinfonia show off their legendary versatility – revelling in late-Romantic luscious sonority but also displaying crystal clarity in accompanying two Mozart piano concertos. Multi-award-winning pianist Paul Lewis, protégé of Alfred Brendel, performs the engaging Piano Concerto No. 12 in A, followed by Mozart’s final piano concerto with its famous ethereal slow movement.
‘Lewis’s attention to colour and texture gave his interpretation not only authority but also drew the listener on to another plane. It was not easy to come back.’ The Guardian
