Handel Messiah
Handel's remarkable oratorio Messiah, with its vivid portrayal of biblical scenes and high emotional charge, is staple 'fare' in many people's Christmas musical diet. And rightly so – alongside brilliant solo arias, its magnificent choruses fired a whole nation's passion for choral-singing. Acclaimed vocal group Polyphony, conducted by Stephen Layton, provides the thrilling choral sound to set off a quartet of superb young soloists. For over a decade Polyphony's annual London performances of Messiah have sold out, so it is a particular delight to be touring with them prior to recording the work at St John’s, Smith Square for release in 2009.
‘No-one, but no-one performs Messiah better every year than the choir Polyphony under the conductor Stephen Layton.’ Evening Standard
