Haydn The Creation
Considered by many as his finest masterpiece, Haydn's The Creation is an oratorio that depicts the creation of the world as described in the Book of Genesis and Milton's Paradise Lost. First performed in 1798 Haydn wrote this large-scale work after visiting London after hearing Handel's Israel in Egypt. Scored for large forces Haydn seems to be having the time of his life with this work, truly celebrating the mystery of creation, translating it into the most human terms, infusing it with grace, delight, wit and humour.
