Arts Award Welcome

Britten Sinfonia is proud to be an Arts Award Welcome centre. If you are doing the Arts Award, you can achieve some parts of your award by attending Britten Sinfonia events. Some opportunities are exclusive to Arts Award Centres: read on for more details.
If you are doing your Bronze Award you can…
- Be the audience. For Part B of your award, how about attending a Britten Sinfonia concert? Tickets in Cambridge and Norwich are just £5, and in London you can get 50% off any ticket if you’re in full time education. If you let us know in advance that you’re coming, we can normally provide you with extra information about the concert so that you know what to listen out for. If it’s your first time at a classical concert and you’re feeling a bit nervous, let us know and we’ll show you the ropes and make sure that the experience is a good one!
- Meet an arts hero or heroine. We can often arrange for Arts Award groups coming to Britten Sinfonia concerts to meet a member of the orchestra, soloist, conductor or composer. You can ask them questions about their career and include this in your Part C research. We do need a bit of advance notice to arrange these opportunities, so make sure you let us know you’re coming!
If you are doing your Silver Award you can…
- Review an event. For this part of Unit 1, come to a Britten Sinfonia concert and write a review of it. We will publish well-written reviews on our website, and can send you links to other media reviews so that you can see what other people thought.
- Research arts activities, training and jobs. If you want to find out about the world of arts management, drop us a line and we can answer any questions you might have for this part of Unit 1. We also have work experience opportunities if you want to get direct experience of working for an arts organisation.
If you are doing your Gold Award you can…
- Get involved in the arts world. Volunteering opportunities at Britten Sinfonia include stewarding at concerts, week-long work experience placements and 6-month internships, all of which might be useful to you as part of your Gold Award. We are always keen to welcome more young people to our concerts, so if you have any ideas about helping with promotion or advocacy, we’d love to hear them.
- Research and review. Do keep on coming to concerts and writing reviews - and if there are questions you have about the music, the people involved or the way the concerts are organised, just ask! You can also come to rehearsals to watch the process of putting together a performance, and if you are interested in meeting particular practitioners, whether performers or backstage, do get in touch.
We are a small and friendly team, and are always happy to answer questions and accommodate requests wherever we can. Call Sophie, our Creative Learning Director, on 01223 300795, or email us.
