The programme pays homage to two of the musical giants of the 20th century, Gil Evans and Miles Davis. In this podcast Gil Goldstein, legendary American pianist, band leader and director of this project, discusses working with Britten Sinfonia and stunning soloists Luciana Souza, Romero Lubambo and Alex Acuna. <itunes:subtitle>In conversation with composer Richard Causton</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Britten Sinfonia At Lunch is a series of lunchtime concerts pairing established repertoire with new commissions. The first of these new pieces is Richard Causton's Divertimento, written for the same group of instruments as Ravel's famous Introduction and Allegro. In this podcast, Richard talks to Fiona Talkington about the experience of writing for Britten Sinfonia and of responding to Ravel's exotic use of harp, string quartet, flute and clarinet. Comparing it to an out of body experience, Richard also reveals what it is like to sit in the audience and listen to your music being performed, as he will do when the concert tours to Cambridge, Norwich, London, Birmingham and Krakow.
