Back to school!
As children and teachers across the country gear up for another school year, Britten Sinfonia is looking ahead to some exciting Creative Learning projects with schools coming up this season.
We kick off in September with a project with Swavesey Village College near Cambridge, to help them with the grand opening of their new performance venue. Details of this project are still under wraps as we anxiously await the result of funding applications, but Cambridgeshire locals should keep an eye out for news of an exciting performance coming up soon!
In October we start our lunchtime concert series, and with it our series of schools workshops, which introduce classes to the repertoire of the lunchtime concert. Schools in Cambridge and London who are interested in bringing a group of pupils to a concert should email info@brittensinfonia.com to find out more.
In the new year, we will be returning to Manor Community College in Cambridge for a creative project with young string players there. Having spent a day with pupils there in June introducing them to the viola and double bass, we will be excited to see how they’ve been getting on with their lessons, and to create some new music together with them.
We will also be going back to Wymondham in Norfolk for a follow up to our successful Mr Big project last year. The project is expanding – from six primary schools and one secondary last year to eight primaries and two secondaries, so we’ll be kept very busy through the Spring composing and performing new songs with children there.
As usual, we will be continuing our relationship with Cambridge’s Hills Road Sixth Form College, where we provide ensemble coaching to some of their top instrumentalists. Other schools who are interested in developing a relationship with Britten Sinfonia’s Creative Learning programme, or simply in a one-off workshop, should get in touch with Sophie Dunn on 01223 300795 or email info@brittensinfonia.com.
We wish all of our younger audiences – and their parents and teachers – a happy and productive start to the new term, and hope to see some of you at a concert or Creative Learning project very soon.
