Barbican 2013-14 events now on sale

Following a successful opening season as Associate Ensemble at the Barbican, Britten Sinfonia returns in 2013-14 with even more events across the Barbican's performing spaces. From September 2013, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama will be opening Milton Court - a new performance venue including a 608 seat concert hall which will be used by Britten Sinfonia.

As well as Milton Court, Britten Sinfonia will appear in both the Barbican Hall and Theatre, St Giles Cripplegate and Milton Court Concert Hall in a series of events which show the creative partnership between the orchestra and the Barbican continuing to blossom. Ian Bostridge, Paul Lewis, Mark Padmore, Maxim Rysanov, Pekka Kuusisto and Iestyn Davies all feature in a season which embraces significant anniversaries, flirts with Eastern folk and English song, and makes bold connections between old and new, including London premieres of works by Judith Weir and Anna Clyne. Concerts at Milton Court include: Paul Lewis as soloist/director in Mozart’s Piano Concerto K414 (October 2013) alongside the London premiere of Anna Clyne’s “fragile elegy” for strings, Within her Arms; outstanding young violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja makes her Britten Sinfonia debut with a programme of Brahms, Mendelssohn and folk-inspired works by Janáček, Bartók and Tigran Mansurian (March), and a February focus on Britten Sinfonia’s stellar wind players, including Nicholas Daniel (oboe).  The orchestra also plays a major part in Barbican celebrations of Britten and Birtwistle.
