Royal Opera House main stage debut
Tonight sees the opening of Rufus Wainwright’s residency at the Royal Opera House with five performances over six nights.
Britten Sinfonia join Rufus Wainwright on stage for both performances of his acclaimed Judy Garland tribute concert, Rufus Does Judy!, tonight (18 July) and on Friday. And also for the final night of his residency, Saturday 23 July in a concert performance of Rufus’ own opera, Prima Donna.
In the remaining performances it becomes a family affair with Rufus joining with his sister and father to present two evenings of music. Martha Wainwright has appeared at the Royal Opera House before with The Royal Ballet in the singing role of Anna in Kurt Weill’s Seven Deadly Sins. For the first time in the UK Rufus will perform with his father, Loudon Wainwright III. Grammy Award winning Loudon has a back catalogue of over 20 albums to draw upon for this unique concert.
