Britten Sinfonia resident at Aldeburgh’s Britten Weekend 2016

Britten Sinfonia is pleased to announce it will be resident at Aldeburgh Music’s Britten weekend this October. The orchestra will perform alongside Richard Alston Dance Company in a revival of their acclaimed collaboration and Olivier-award nominated production of Phaedra which premiered during the Barbican’s Britten centenary celebrations in 2013. Alongside Phaedra there will be a world premiere of a brand new work using Britten’s arr. of Purcell’s Chacony and revivals of Alston’s choreography of Les Illuminations and Sechs Holderlin Fragments.

Regular guest collaborator Pekka Kuusisto not only joins Britten Sinfonia to direct Phaedra but also as director and sololist for a programme centred on Britten’s music for strings including his Variations on a theme of Frank Bridge.
