BBC Proms 2019

Britten Sinfonia is delighted to return to the BBC Proms in 2019 to premiere a new Piano Concerto by Ryan Wigglesworth, and Britten Sinfonia Voices will be making its debut with the Hallé during the festival.

Prom 37: The Childhood of Christ
Wednesday 14 August, 7pm
Royal Albert Hall, London

Sir Mark Elder and the Hallé continue the BBC Proms’ series marking 150 years since the death of Hector Berlioz with the composer’s vividly dramatic The Childhood of Christ. Britten Sinfonia Voices directed by Eamonn Dougan, and a stellar line up of soloists including Allan Clayton, Dame Sarah Connolly, Neal Davies and Roderick Williams will perform this disarmingly direct oratorio.

Prom 52: Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky & Ryan Wigglesworth
Wednesday 28 August, 7,30pm
Royal Albert Hall, London

Ryan Wigglesworth conducts Britten Sinfonia in a concert of musical homages. Arranging four pieces by Mozart in his Suite No. 4, Tchaikovsky pays homage to the composer he regarded as a ‘divinity’. Tchaikovsky himself was the inspiration for Stravinsky’s ballet The Fairy’s Kiss, shot through with Tchaikovsky’s melodies. Conductor Ryan Wigglesworth also features as both pianist – alongside Paul Lewis in Mozart’s Concerto for two pianos – and composer, with the world premiere of his own Piano Concerto.

Tickets for both concerts will go on sale on 11 May from www.royalalberthall.com
