Curlew River, finale of the Lux aeterna festival, sweeps audiences into a fascinating, unknown world. Benjamin Britten’s first of three Church Parables, a synthesis of Japanese Noh theatre and European music, portrays both Buddhist world views and Christian redemption beliefs.
Celebrated tenor, Ian Bostridge stars in the lead role of Madwoman. The stellar cast also includes bass Jonathan Lemalu, baritone Marcus Farnsworth, bass-baritone Ashley Riches, with Britten Sinfonia and Britten Sinfonia Voices under Martin Fitzpatrick.
Britten Sinfonia is very proud to be the first UK orchestra to perform in the main hall of Hamburg’s brand new Elbphilharmonie.
