Christmas Oratorio, parts 1, 2, 3 & 6

Britten Sinfonia, Polyphony and Stephen Layton re-unite in Bach’s great seasonal masterpiece.

A cast of outstanding young baroque specialists will form the chorus, stepping out for Bach’s glorious solos and duets.

Parts one, two, three and six explore the Birth of Jesus, the annunciation to the shepherds, and the adoration of the Christ child by both the shepherds and wise men.

Britten Sinfonia joins forces with one of the world’s finest professional choirs, Polyphony, and its founder-director, Stephen Layton, whose many acclaimed recordings with Britten Sinfonia on Hyperion include Handel’s Messiah, Poulenc’s Gloria and MacMillan’s Seven Last Words from the Cross

“Britten Sinfonia came out with all trumpets (and timpani, and oboes d’amore) blazing ... a reading of the Oratorio that brought a sense of ritual togetherness.”

The Norwich performance is dedicated to the memory of Richard Somerford.
