The 21st century’s leading champion of the harpsichord joins Britten Sinfonia to perform a complete cycle of Bach’s keyboard concertos alongside music by Bach’s contemporaries and forebears.
Mahan Esfahani has been hailed as one of the most remarkable harpsichordists and "controversial artists" of his generation, pushing against boundaries to become the first and only harpsichordist to be a BBC New Generation Artist (2008-2010), and most recently, the winner of the 2022 Wigmore Hall Prize for contributions to the classical music field.
The artists bring together the works of three German composers with that of an Italian who wore many hats – as well as a composer, Benedetto Marcello was a writer, advocate, magistrate, and teacher.
“A performance by Esfahani would be something to treasure.”– Anna Picard, The Times.
