Emma-Ruth Richards is writing a new work for Britten Sinfonia, commissioned by the William Alwyn Foundation with support from donors to the Musically Gifted campaign. From as little as £10 you can help support this new work and get your name in the score. The world premiere performance will take place in December 2017 at the Barbican.
“A breath of fresh air”, Emma-Ruth Richards’ music has been described as “accomplished” (Paul Driver, The Times), “bold, imaginative and inventive” (RNCM), and “highly charged and beautiful” (Richard Wilcocks, Bachtrack). She came to critical attention with Bleared Smeared Shod in the finals of the BBC Radio 3/ NCEM Tallis Scholars competition in 2010 at the National Centre for Early Music and in 2012 was invited as an emerging composer at the Intimacy of Creativity Bright Sheng partnership in Hong Kong. She is currently working on a new chamber opera at the Royal Opera House with award winning director Natalie Abrahami and librettist Nicola Chalmers.
