Paul plays an active part in the Britten Sinfonia's education and community work, notably with the Together in Sound project working alongside participants suffering from dementia and Tuning Up, a ground-breaking project involving 30 residents at HMP Whitemoor.

In addition to his work with Britten Sinfonia, Paul is Music Director of Regent Brass, one of the UK’s leading brass bands. and performs regularly as a chamber musician and soloist.

Paul has been a principal player in the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London Sinfonietta and BBC National Orchestra of Wales and was a member of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and English Brass Ensemble. He teaches through his own organisation, English Music Academy, and throughout his career has held faculty positions at the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In 2003 he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music, London.
