50 years to the day since Britten's death in 1976, Britten Sinfonia and the BBC Singers perform his joyful cantata Saint Nicolas.
Britten Sinfonia and the BBC Singers combine to realise Britten’s joyous cantata, which tells the story of the saint who inspired the figure of Santa Claus and contains some of the composer’s brightest and boldest music.
Also on the programme is Britten’s tribute to fellow composer and his teacher, Frank Bridge – an astonishing showcase for strings, full of rich textures and ravishing sonorities. Arvo Pärt’s moving tribute to Britten offers a moment of reflection as we mark 50 years since Britten’s death.
