DEATH OF LORD ARCHER

We were deeply saddened to hear of the sudden death of Lord Archer. It was only two weeks ago that Lord Archer and Dame Mary Archer generously hosted Britten Sinfonia at their beautiful London home for a private recital – given by a quartet of Britten Sinfonia players and mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly – a reception, and the launch of our Playing On appeal.

As ever, Jeffrey was full of fun and joie de vivre – as our violist popped out in rehearsal, we thought we had recruited a very enthusiastic replacement! Both Jeffrey and Mary have been great friends and supporters of the orchestra for many years; he will be much missed by all of us. Our thoughts are with Mary and her family.
