New music has been in Britten Sinfonia’s DNA from the start. We are widely admired for championing new music from a wide range of composers, and our ever growing list of commissions and premieres is now close to the 300 mark.

  • We will reach that impressive milestone in the next couple of years, if plans for the following new works are sufficiently funded:
  • John Adams – Gioia for two violins and strings, a co-commission with Australian Chamber Orchestra
  • Charlotte Bray – for full orchestra, a co-commission with Geneva Chamber Orchestra, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg
  • Brett Dean – Conversations with Schumann, a co-commission with Berlin Philharmonic and Swedish Chamber Orchestra
  • Freya Waley-Cohen – orchestration of her song cycle The Moon, The Moss and the Mushrooms for Roderick Williams
  • Joe Cutler – Ramayana with storyteller Vahu Naidu, a co-commission with Royal Philharmonic Society
  • Joby Talbot – Percussion concerto for Vivi Vassileva, a co-commission with Los Angeles Philharmonic

Also scheduled with festivals and promoters in 2027 are premieres by Donnacha Dennehy, Cheryl Frances- Hoad, Robin Haigh and Tara Creme, alongside those in our Magnus Opus composer development programme.

“I owe so much of my current life to Britten Sinfonia’s generosity, and I know I speak for generations of young and youngish composers and performers and presenters when I say that Britten Sinfonia’s work is so key and so crucial. I cannot encourage you enough to support them in every way that you possibly can.”
Nico Muhly, composer
