Britten Sinfonia’s discography is extensive and varied, and features acclaimed recordings on labels such as Hyperion, Chandos, Warner and Harmonia Mundi.

For most of these, we are engaged to participate and are paid to do so accordingly. There are others that we’d dearly love to do, but for which we need to raise the funds ourselves. Two such projects feature music we have a close association with, by Sir James MacMillan and Jonathan Dove.

Sir James MacMillan

As part of our fruitful, ongoing relationship with James MacMillan, we performed his early masterpiece, Seven Last Words from the Cross, several times earlier this year with the outstanding choir Tenebrae. We will do so again before Easter next year, and have an opportunity to capture this special collaboration for the Signum label at the same time. The disc would also include shorter works by Roderick Williams and Edmund Finnis.

Jonathan Dove

We also want to make premiere recordings of works by Jonathan Dove. They include his piece for trumpet, saxophone and strings, Moonlight Revels, which Britten Sinfonia commissioned and premiered in 2002, and Out of Time for string orchestra.
