Britten Sinfonia is excited to announce the six composers selected for Opus 1, 2025. The selected composers will write new works for a trio of flute, viola and harp. Over the next four months the composers will take part in workshops, coaching, and professional recording sessions, and have their works premiered at the OPUS HORIZONS concert on 15 November at Kings Place, London. 

This year, the composers will be supported and mentored by Programme Director Dani Howard.

Meet our 2025 Opus 1 composers

Charlotte Botterill

Charlotte is a composer, educator and piano teacher who has contributed to various TCL piano exam syllabi.

Ansel Chaloner-Hughes

Ansel is an 18-year-old composer and pianist based between Worthing and North Wales.

Aris Daryon

Aris is an Indonesian composer, traditional gamelan musician, and educator based in London.

Rob Hughes

Rob Hughes is a composer, arranger, and cellist based in Manchester. His music spans contemporary classical, energetic jazz, and ambient electronic soundscapes.

Sooji Seol

Sooji Seol is a London-based South Korean composer and pianist. Her music explores a distinctive contemporary language that transcends boundaries between East and West.

Elaina Sophie

Elaina is an emerging composer and clarinettist who has recently graduated from RWCMD. In her music she contrasts the familiar and unfamiliar to play with an audience's perception and relationship to sound.
