IMOGEN WHITEHEAD

Principal Trumpet

Having regularly worked with Britten Sinfonia as Guest Principal Trumpet, Imogen Whitehead was appointed Principal Trumpet in August 2023.

Imogen studied at the Royal Academy of Music and is an alumna of Southbank Sinfonia. She has also undertaken studies with renowned soloist Tine Thing Helseth, thanks to funding from the Royal Philharmonic Society.

As a soloist, Imogen has premiered a number of works including Stephen Dodgson’s Trumpet Concerto and Trinculo by Sally Beamish, commissioned for her by the Park Lane Group.

In 2022 Imogen made her international recital debut in France and recorded Barry Mills’ new concerto for trumpet and flugelhorn with the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra (Czech Republic). In 2018, she gave World Premiere performances of two flugelhorn concerti, written for her by Aleksandr Brusentsev (Threads) and Leo Geyer (Somewhere In-Between).

In addition to her role with Britten Sinfonia, Imogen is a regular guest player with the London Symphony Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and often performs as Guest Principal Trumpet with ensembles such as London Mozart Players and at English National Opera. In September 2023 Imogen will be Guest Principal Trumpet with Aurora Orchestra for their highly anticipated, memorised performances of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring at the BBC Proms.

In her free time, she enjoys running, brush-lettering and learning Spanish. She is also an Associate Performer for GALSI and a Befriender through the Wimbledon Guild.
