Joy is a founding member of the Haffner Wind Ensemble, with whom she has broadcast and toured widely.

As a recitalist and concerto soloist Joy has appeared in all the major London concert venues, playing with such orchestras as the Philharmonia, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, the London Mozart Players, City of London Sinfonia and Britten Sinfonia, with whom she has been Principal Clarinet since the orchestra was founded.

She has appeared as guest soloist with some of the world’s finest string quartets, at festivals including Aldeburgh, Cheltenham, Kuhmo, Crusell, Stockholm, Leicester and Cambridge, and given recitals all over Britain, as well as in Spain, Australia, Finland, and Norway.

Joy has had great success as a recording artist, particularly with works by Mozart. Noteable recordings include Mozart’s clarinet works on three discs, Strauss’ Duet-Concertino for EMI, two Mozart discs for the Classic FM label, and chamber works for both Chandos and Hyperion. Her most recent recording is a disc of Italian Bel Canto Concertos with Britten Sinfonia on ASV.

Joy Farrall has been Professor at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama since 1985 as well as teaching in masterclasses at conservatoires both at home and as far afield as Spain, Finland, Poland, America, Denmark, Australia and Israel. In September 2010 she took up the post of Senior Tutor in Wind Brass Percussion Chamber Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and in addition she is Head of Woodwind at the Purcell School.
